In Memoriam

This page honors those members of the Cocoon family who have passed on. Through the sharing of their dreams, their hard work and commitment to the theatre, and their friendship and companionship, they have touched all of our lives. We will dearly miss you.

Jim Andrews

We are sorry to share with you that Jim Andrews passed away Sunday, June 14 at his family home in Arkansas. Cocoon has known Jim for over seven years, in a myriad of ways. He first introduced himself as an actor, accepting a role in “The Crucible” in 2002. He then joined as a volunteer and worked alongside Julia van Develder to transform the lobby into a fantasy world for a Holiday fundraiser. He brought his gorgeous daughter, Sophie, to classes (modern dance, improvisation) and workshops (“Silent Movie”). He, himself, took modern dance with Andres for two years. He became a Cocoon Friend making yearly donations. He became a Board Member serving as Treasurer. He most recently joined the cast of “The Cherry Orchard” for a lovely performance as Peter Trofimov. Personally, he was a friend to Marguerite & Andres, as well as neighbor, living next door to the San Millans in Barrytown for several years. Please enjoy some photos of Jim.

Esther Kiviat

Cocoon wishes to acknowledge Esther Kiviat September 25, 1915-June 1, 2009. Esther died peacefully in her sleep after an enjoyable day of watching birds. She was a dedicated Cocoon Friend - making yearly donations, faithfully attending performances with Erik and Elaine, and sharing her unique points of view. We will all miss her very much!

Bronson Chanler

May we pause and remember Bronson (Bim) Chanler who recently passed away - a most unique actor and human being - full of amazing stories, regal charm, elegant grace and sly wit! A true gentleman. Here Bim is pictured in his last performance at Cocoon in "A Man For All Seasons."

James Monteith

We wish to share with you the sad news of the recent passing of James Monteith. James died on February 12th from an unexpected heart attack at his work. He was a very special part of Cocoon for over 15 years. We first met him as an outstanding singer, then as a puppet maker. He worked dearly on the set of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” He taught a playwriting class with us, and was dramaturge on “A Bright Room Called Day.” He had a deep, belly-laugh, and often wore bunny slippers as an audience member. He made yearly donations with us, communicated extensively through emails, and even shared a scene at Cocoon from a play he wrote. We are lucky to have known James and share in his dry wit, his warm humor …and that belly-laugh!
