Red Hook's Annual Hardscrabble Day Parade

Every year the Village of Red Hook holds the Hardscrabble Day Parade. For the past several years Cocon Theatre has built an original float for this parade and has featured dancers, musicians and actors.

Hardscrabble 2011

The weather held up as Saturday's Hardscrabble Day Parade was another success for Cocoon Theatre. This year's float featured an original construction made of wood, tree branches, and recycled cans, pulled by four "slaves" slathered in clay. The girls, dressed in sheets, handed out flowers to the spectators.

Hardscrabble 2010

Featuring a repeat of the 2009 Montgomery Place replica, the float was "rebuilt" from recycled parts and redesigned to be pushed by a tractor rather than built onto a truck chassis. As with the 2009 float local dancers and musicians marched along.

Hardscrabble 2009

This original float, conceived of and designed by Andres San Millan, was a replica of the famous Montgomery Place Mansion in Red Hook, NY. Volunteers worked at the Greig Farm in Red Hook for a month in making Andres' vision come to life. The frame was built onto and around a truck which served as the main propulsion system. The float also featured a band of local musicans and several little angels.
