3 Views - A Committment to ArtCocoon Theatre presents 3 Views - A Commitment to Art, an art show of figurative & representational oil paintings & drawings by Franklin Alexander, St. Julian Fishbourne & Andres San Millan. There was an Opening Reception, May 26. with a one-time modern dance performance of Voluntad de Vivir, a 10-minute trio choreographed by Don Halquist of the Bill Evans Dance Company and performed by Andres, Magdalene & Marguerite San Millan of the Cocoon Theatre Modern Dance Company. A gallery viewing continued Thursdays through Saturdays, May 27-June 24. Cocoon Theatre has been interested in supporting more art in Rhinebeck, and especially in sharing the mature works of such accomplished artists as Woodstock’s Franklin Alexander and Saugerties’ St. Julian Fishbourne with this particular community. Andres San Millan, who studied with Mr. Alexander from 1998-2003, presented new works to complete the show. Franklin Alexander, one of the founders of the Woodstock School of Art, as well as a teacher there, has had a long career both as an abstract expressionist and as a figure painter. He also taught at the Arts Student League at Woodstock, SUNY Albany, Dutchess Community College, and Barrett House in Poughkeepsie. He was featured in American Artist Magazine and The Artist Magazine.
St. Julian Fishbourne studied in NYC with Raphael Soyer just after WW II. Initially an abstract painter, he was influenced by David Levine and Hubby Dinnerstein to begin exploring realism. His work now focuses on birds of prey and still life. Andres San Millan is a visual and performance artist working year-round at the Cocoon Theatre, which he and his wife, Marguerite, founded while in NYC twenty years ago. He studied art at the Woodstock School of Art with Franklin Alexander. Andres will have a solo show at James W. Palmer Gallery at Vassar College this July and August.
